Complaints & Concerns

If a band member believes that a part of the governing body of Gitsegukla (Council, Band Manager, or other staff) are not following and abiding by the policies contained in the Governance Policy Manual, or any other laws and bylaws of Gitsegukla, they may voice their written concerns or complaints to the appropriate department. How that is handled, depends on the department that the concerns are toward. Here you can see the process for handling complaints towards either council or administration staff.

Concerning Council

Below is the flowchart for how complaints concerning council will be handled. Progressing from left to right (1-3).

(1) Membership

Member submits written complaint letter voicing their concerns to Band Manager.

(2) Band Manager

Band Manager reports the complaint to Council for consideration.

(3) Council

Council considers complaint, and provides a response within 30 days.

Concerning Administration

Below is the flowchart for how complaints concerning the Band Manager or other staff will be handled. Progressing from left to right (1-6).

(1) Membership

Member submits written complaint letter voicing their concerns to the appropriate department director.

(2) Department Director

Department director considers the complaint, and provides a response within 30 days.

(3) Membership

If member is unsatisfied with the response of the department director, they may then direct their concerns in writing to the Band Manager.

(4) Band Manager

Band Manager considers the complaint, and provides a written response within 30 days.

(5) Membership

If member is unsatisfied with the response of the Band Manager, they may then direct their reasons and concerns in writing to Council.

(6) Council

Council considers the complaint, and provides a written response within 30 days.
