Introducing the new Gitsegukla First Nation Website!

This november, you will no longer be seeing the old Gitsegukla website we’ve come to know and love. We’ve been working hard to create a fast and convenient way to show off our community on the World Wide Web, while also making it easy for you, our community members, to access information from all of our departments.

The new Gitsegukla website will make it easier for us as an organization to publish announcements, job postings, meeting minutes, and updates regarding our community and operations.

The First Website

Some of you may remember our community’s first website, created around 14 years ago. This was a milestone for Gitsegukla, when we established our footprint on the internet.

It may not have been the prettiest landing page ever created, but it represented our community to the rest of the world. This old website is long gone now, only accessible from the Web Archives which spends it’s time roaming from website to website, saving them to be remembered in the future.

A Refreshing Update

In 2016, we released our new and updated website to the public, designed by the Meade Design Group, it set a new standard for Gitsegukla’s online presence. Mobile responsiveness packaged with an easy to use interface for users and administrators, introduced us to a new way of communicating.

Now, in 2019, we take a step further in design and convenience by releasing our newest point of contact for our community. We are happy to introduce you to our new website, and we hope that it will be a smooth/convenient way for our community members and visitors alike, to learn a little bit more about the small village along Highway 16, that we call home.

Some Tips:

Here are some cool tips on the functionality of our website, and what you can do to help.

Events/News Tabs

On the homepage of our website, you’ll notice two buttons locked to the bottom of your screen. These are used to toggle the events and news tabs, for quick viewing of upcoming events and recent posts from Gitsegukla Administration.

Depending on your internet connection and device, these tabs may take a few seconds before they’re fully loaded and clickable. Use these to catch up on updates in a hurry!

Feedback

Though we may try our best, we can’t do it all on our own. Sometimes we need a little help from you, our users, so we’ve included a feedback form on our site, to allow you, the people, to submit feedback about how we do things here. This feedback form is intended for anything community related, that does not require a direct response. So if you have an opinion or observation you’d like to submit, please feel free to do so on our website.

Website Bugs

We’ve been working on our new website for quite some time now, in hopes of ensuring every “i” is dotted, and every “T” is crossed. In web development however, sometimes things are missed. If you notice an issue with the usability of our website, we encourage you to let us know via the Feedback form so we can fix it ASAP.

A Note From Our Developer

Hey there, my name is Hunter. I’ve been the in-house Webmaster here in Gitsegukla since early 2016. When I first started, I only new a few things here and there about websites and how they worked. I started by making posts for the Band Office, uploading flyers and notices. As time went on, I started making adjustments to the existing website and incorporating new features. Eventually, I began building websites of my own, in my spare time. In 2019, we decided it would be beneficial for our community to have a new website to mark a new era; not only to represent where we are as a nation right now, but where we want to be. The future must be included as much as our past, when it comes to making progress. I’m proud to present this piece of work for our community, and I hope it does us well.
